Sustainable rum producer Flor de Caña will be showcasing its carbon neutral and fair trade portfolio at the upcoming Summit of the Americas — A Virtual Experience.
Flor de Caña is a Bronze Partner of the all-digital event, which takes place on 5-9 April.
As reported, the all-digital Summit of the Americas is being organised by the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October).
The fifth-generation family-owned rum company was founded in 1890 and celebrates its 130th anniversary this year. The Flor de Caña distillery was built on the base of the San Cristobal Volcano in Nicaragua; and the fertility of the surrounding lands and rich volcanic climate helped forge the rum’s distinctive flavour.
Commenting on the company’s participation at the Summit, Flor de Caña Global Travel Retail Manager Rodrigo Bazan said: “Not only does this event serve as a platform for our global brand but our team truly values the sessions, speakers and data sponsored by IAADFS and ASUTIL….we look forward to partnering and doing our part.
“The Summit of the Americas is very important to keeping the wheels turning in 2021 and we are honoured that Flor de Caña will be present once again.”
Flor de Caña is continually expanding its premium portfolio of sustainably-produced premium rums. The brand will be showcasing its carbon neutral and fair trade 130th Anniversary Rum and Eco rum at the Summit.
Commenting on the company’s product innovations, Flor de Caña Global Travel Retail Manager Bazan said: “Flor de Caña, is looking forward to introduce two new innovative options for rum enthusiasts looking for a memorable experience.”
The Flor de Caña 130th anniversary rum is a luxury, 90 proof rum that was aged for 20 years in premium bourbon barrels. The barrels were hand-selected from the family’s private reserve to commemorate its 130th anniversary.
Describing the liquid, Bazan said: “It has an exquisite dark copper colour, a deep wood and vanilla flavour and a long, smooth finish, which makes it perfect to enjoy neat or on a rock with an orange rind. Each bottle is individually numbered and signed by Flor de Caña Master Distiller Maestro Ronero. They are presented in an elegant purple case with a shape and illustration inspired by the San Cristóbal volcano in Nicaragua and the founding family’s crest.”
The Flor de Caña Eco Rum is an ultra-premium rum that underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The expression was distilled using renewable energy sources and packaged in 100% recyclable materials. The rum is Kosher, naturally-aged and foregoes the use of any artificial ingredients, sugar or gluten.
“At 40% ABV, it is a full-bodied rum with a rich complexity of flavours and an exquisitely smooth finish that lingers on the palate,” commented Bazan. “It’s best enjoyed on the rocks or in cocktails with natural and sustainable ingredients.
According to Bazan, sustainability is at the heart of Flor de Caña and it is something that he wishes to highlight at the Summit of the Americas. “Sustainability has always been a core value of the family,” Bazan said. “Today Flor de Caña is recognised as an industry leader for its sustainable practices, being the only spirit in the world to be both Carbon Neutral and Fair Trade Certified.
“Since 1913, the company has provided free education and healthcare to employees and their families. In addition, it has been distilling its rum with 100% renewable energy for over a decade and has planted 50,000 trees annually since 2005. We are happy that airports sales are retaking, giving us the possibilities to launch our new exclusive products.”
